A 45-minute car drive from Tartu will take you to Nature Tours Estonia centre, located near the Emajõe-Suursoo wetland area. That’s one of Estonia’s wildest and least inhabited areas, being part of Peipsiveere Nature Reserve. This vast and pristine wetland features numerous rivers and lakes, making it an ideal destination for SUP (paddleboarding) tours. The serene rivers, lakes, and bog islands are home to a variety of birds and mammals, including several protected species.
Our SUP-board tours are led by experienced nature guides. Your tour guides are local people living here year round and this wilderness is their backyard. SUP-boarding on these tranquil wetland rivers is suitable even for beginners.
HOW TO GET THERE?
Nature Tours Estonia centre is located in countryside, 45 km from Tartu. There is several ways to get here:
- Bus from Tartu and back (bus stop Saki). Only on some days of the week. Check the timetable.
- Rental car (best option, we recommend!)
- Bolt or taxi (also very good option)
- Ask Nature Tours Estonia for a transportation service from Tartu and back (up to 4 persons, 100€)
How do SUP (paddleboarding) tours work?
Paddleboarding trips take us to the quiet rivers and lakes of Emajõe-Suursoo. It is a water maze that is deserted and undiscovered by hikers, where you will hardly meet another person. However, you can see and hear many interesting birds and animals here. We pass by giant beaver nests and can see majestic white-tailed eagles flying in the sky.
The swamp waters have a slow flow, they have no obstacles, and therefore paddleboarding trips here offer real hiking pleasure. Nature Tours Estonia paddleboarding trips are suitable for you even if you have no previous paddleboarding experience. Here it is very good to practice staying on the paddleboard, different riding styles and maneuvering with the board. Paddleboarding is an easy and enjoyable way to spend time for everyone. OVERNIGHT SUP tours (2 days)
On the tour we will travel along quiet rivers and lakes to Lake Peipsi. We well sleep in hammocks next Peipsi lake far away from any civilation. There are wonderful sunset and sunrise views. Possible to go wild swimming in Peipsi Lake. Dinner will be prepared using seasonal forest ingredients on a camping stove. In the morning, we’ll enjoy breakfast and SUP-board to the finishing point.

TOUR DESCRIPTION
Piirissaar, part of the Lake Peipus and wetland complex Emajõe-Suursoo is part of the Peipsiveere Nature Reserve which is internationally important bird area (IBA) due to the abundance of migratory birds. The site is frequented by large numbers of waterbirds for moulting and staging. Its also the most important breeding area in Estonia for the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), the jack snipe (Lymnocryptes minimus) and the black grouse (Tetrao tetrix).
We organize SUP trips near Piirissaare as pre-booked trips. This activity is perfect for a special birthday gift or birthday event, as well as for smaller company events.
The group size is 5 to 9 people. The trip length is up to 15 kilometers or 3-4 hours, depending on the route and weather. If desired, we can also take a longer discovery trip. Tours are led by experienced nature guides.
